| The City of Palo Alto, in order to conform to the State's
structural requirements, contracted LEE to provide construction services for the seismic
upgrades of the police facility. The upgrades covered approximately 20,000 square
feet of the facility. The structural upgrades required that LEE drill dowels through
5 feet of concrete to install the reinforcing steel. This work required specialized
care in the drilling process. The drilling was performed around post-tensioning
concrete beams (and severance in these beams could cause the damage to the existing
structure). Another unique aspect tot this
project was the use of architectural concrete. This type of concrete has a very
specialized type of ad mixture and was poured into place from the bottom up.
Specialized plywood forms with high strength ties were used to insure the concrete set
properly.
This project was completed on-time and within budget
constraints which were originally agreed upon by the City and LEE. |
